Shymansky compiled a 172-64 record in his seven seasons on the Flats.

ATLANTA - Bond Shymansky, head coach of the Georgia Tech volleyball team since 2002, has been released from the remainder of his contract after submitting his resignation to director of athletics Dan Radakovich Saturday afternoon.

Shymansky guided the Yellow Jackets to NCAA appearances in each of his first three seasons at the helm, including an ACC-best showing with a NCAA Region Final finish in 2003, but Georgia Tech hasn't advanced to the postseason since 2004.

A native of Iowa City, Iowa, Shymansky spent two years as an assistant coach under Shelton Collier before being promoted to his first head coaching position in 2002.

"I am proud of the accomplishments of the program I built during my tenure," Shymansky said. "I was able to set a higher expectation for volleyball at Georgia Tech and in the ACC. My players always worked hard, played well, and graduated. I have so many great moments and memories from the past nine seasons that will stay with me forever. I appreciated my opportunity at Georgia Tech and look forward to a new coaching challenge in my future. I wish all of the returning players the very best in seasons to come."

A national search for Shymansky's replacement will begin immediately.
