Tech's Callie Miller Selected ACC Volleyball Player of the Week

Oct. 30, 2006

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech's Callie Miller has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after helping the Yellow Jackets post a 2-0 record, which included a victory over 25th-ranked Duke.

The 6-1 middle hitter is the third Yellow Jacket to receive the league's weekly honor this season, joining sophomores Talisa Kellogg and Allie Niekamp.

"Callie has continued to improve over the course of the season and has become a dominant force for our team this year," said Georgia Tech head coach Bond Shymansky. "She has really prepared herself to lead this team the second half of the season and showed that this past weekend against Duke and Wake Forest."

With the Yellow Jackets trailing 2-1 after three games against No. 25 Duke last Friday, Miller took the reigns, pounding out 10 kills while hitting .500 and recording four blocks over the final two games to stop the Blue Devils' 19-match ACC winning streak. She tied a career-high with 18 kills, posted six blocks and registered a match-best .412 hitting percentage to end the battle against the Blue Devils.

The following night against Wake Forest, the native of Whitehouse, Ohio, added nine kills and four blocks through four games versus the Demon Deacons.

For the week, she averaged 3.00 kills and 1.11 blocks per game while hitting .345.

Georgia Tech will hit the road for a pair of matches this week. The Yellow Jackets head to Miami on Friday, November 3, and close out weekend action at Florida State two days later (Sunday, November 5).
