Nesbitt and Stawicka Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Sept. 15, 2008

ATLANTA - Football quarterback Josh Nesbitt and volleyball middle-hitter Asia Stawicka have been named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, Sept. 15, 2008.

Nesbitt, a sophomore from Greensboro, Ga., broke the school record for rushing yards in a game by a quarterback with 151 in a 20-17 loss to Virginia Tech. He was 5-of-8 passing for 109 yards and a touchdown, and ran for his fourth rushing touchdown of the season. Nesbitt became just the fourth quarterback (fifth time overall) to rush and throw for over 100 yards in a single game in Tech history. He leads the team in rushing yards on the season with 261 while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Nesbitt currently ranks second in the ACC in rushing, averaging 87 yards per game.

Stawicka, a freshman from Warsaw, Poland, led the Yellow Jackets with a .465 hitting percentage at the Magnolia Invitational, hosted by Ole Miss over the weekend. She was named to the all-tournament team after helping Tech to a second-place finish behind the host Rebels, who the Yellow Jackets defeated on opening night, 3-2. Stawicka averaged 1.92 kills, 0.69 blocks and 0.31 digs per set. Playing in all 13 sets of the tournament, she committed just five errors while logging 25 kills in the event. She leads the Yellow Jackets with a .500 hitting percentage in 2008, which also ranks at the top of the ACC standings.
