Georgia Tech's Alison Campbell Named ACC Volleyball Player of the Week

Sept. 1, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech's Alison Campbell, a freshman from Potomac, Md., was chosen today as the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after turning in three stellar performances at the Georgia Bulldog Invitational last weekend.

"Alison continued to improve every day during pre-season and showed her competitiveness and steady demeanor all weekend long," said Georgia Tech head coach Bond Shymansky. "If there was ever such a thing as a "gamer", Alison is it. We are looking forward to her continued improvement and contribution to our team."

In the Yellow Jackets' 3-1 season opening win over archrival Georgia, Campbell posted 20 kills on 30 attempts with six errors. She also had four digs and a service ace. On Sunday, Campbell slammed 13 kills in 32 attempts with only five errors. She also tallie eight digs in the 3-0 win over Georgia State. Later in the day against Furman, Campbell smashed 18 kills and added seven digs to lift the Yellow Jackets to a 3-1 victory over the Paladins and the Georgia Bulldog Invitational title. With the performance at the tournament, Campbell was named to the all-tournament team, averaging 4.36 kills per set.

This week, Campbell and Georgia Tech will continue the non-conference schedule at home in the Regency Suites/Georgia Tech Classic, hosting Arkansas, Xavier and Michigan in the three-day tournament.
