Volleyball Sweeps UNC in Conference Opener

Sept. 24, 2004

Final Stats

Lynnette Moster recorded 25 kills and 15 digs while hitting .429 as the Georgia Tech volleyball team defeated North Carolina 3-0 (34-32, 30-26, 30-26) Friday in front of a school record 1,452 fans. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 6-5, 1-0 ACC while the Tar Heels fall to 6-7, 1-1 ACC.

"We wanted to make a big statement tonight in our opening conference match and our team played inspired," said head coach Bond Shymansky. "It took a little while for our offense to get going, but Lynnette Moster was on fire from the start. The definite defense on the night was our defense. Our back row really stepped it up and made some crucial plays late in each game to shift the momentum in our favor. Lindsey has really accelerated her learning curve and is running our offense like a well-oiled machine."

Lindsey Laband spread the offense around, posting 58 assists in the game. In addition to Moster, Lauren Sauer recorded 16 kills, followed by Laura Kuhn who had 11 and Jayme Gergen who had seven.

Defensively, Marisa Aston had a match-high 16 digs on the night followed by Abby Showers who posted 12 and Laband who added 10.

The Tar Heels were led by Dani Nyenhuis who had 14 kills and Molly Pyles who chipped in 11. Caroline deRopeck recorded 11 digs while Pyles added 10.
