Lynnette Moster registered 12 kills, 12 digs and three block solos while earning tournament MVP honors as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets posted a 3-0 (30-18, 30-27, 30-28) victory over IPFW to win the Miami RedHawk Invitational. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-5 on the season while the Mastadons fall to 7-4.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday, Sept. 24 when they open the Atlantic Coast Conference portion of their schedule, hosting North Carolina at 7 p.m. in O'Keefe Gymnasium.

"This was a great weekend for our team," said head coach Bond Shymansky. "It was real important that we got our offense successful and we accomplished just that. Lynnette played great all weekend and it was a great experience for her to play in front of so many fans. Jayme Gergen was fantastic at the net and also from an offensive standpoint and Laura Kuhn is doing a great job of demanding the ball when we are in transition. I'm real pleased with where we are right now as we start ACC play next weekend."

Offensively, the Jackets posted a .315 team hitting percentage as Lindsey Laband recorded 43 assists in the match. Jayme Gergen, who was named to the all-Tournament team, notched 12 kills in the match while hitting .400. In addition, Lauren Sauer, who was also named to the all-tournament team, had a team-high 15 kills and hit .324 in the match.

Defensively, Tech posted 67 digs and seven block assists as a team. Jennifer Randall had a team-high 13 digs, followed by Abby Showers who had 12 and Marisa Aston who had 10, while Laband added a career high eight.

IPFW was led by Fabiana Souza who had 15 kills in the match while Peachy Jankowski had a match-high 16 digs.

In game one, the Jackets jumped out to a 12-6 lead on strong offensive efficiency from Moster and Gergen. After a Mastadon timeout, IPFW mounted a comeback, capitalizing on some Yellow Jacket errors to make the score 14-11. After a kill down the middle of the net from Gergen made the score 15-11, the Jackets got back in their rhythm, scoring on several hitting errors by IPFW and on kills from Moster and Stegemann to build a 23-13 lead. Tech continued to cruise, winning the game 30-18. In the game, the Jackets hit .395 as Moster and Gergen each had six kills and recorded 22 digs as Laband led the way with six.

In the second game, the Jackets held a 15-12 lead until two straight kills from Souza and a service error from Gergen made the score 16-15. After a setter dump from Laband, the Jackets picked up their defensive intensity which led them to convert on kills from Moster and a hitting error from Souza to give Tech a 23-18 lead. The Mastons made a mini-run late in the game, scoring on a blocking error from Gergen and two straight errors from Sauer, but Sauer responded with two straight kills to give the Jackets a 29-24 lead. A kill from Ashley Howell, followed by a ball handling error from Laband and a hitting error from Stegemann narrowed the gap to 29-27, but Cynara Martins hit a down ball into the net, giving Tech the game, 30-27. In the game, the Jackets hit .285 as Sauer converted for seven kills, followed by Moster who had four. Defensively, Moster and Aston each had six digs.

Tech started off slow in game three, trailing 8-4 on hitting errors from Moster and Kuhn and poor passing which led to two ball handling errors on Laband. With the score 8-5 in favor of IPFW, Randall went back to serve and helped Tech to a 9-8 lead with a solo block from Moster, a service ace and a kill from Randall and a hitting error off the antennae by Souza. After taking the lead, Tech never looked back, as they took the final game, 30-21.
