Fofanah To Carry Flag For Republic Of Guinea At Olympic Opening Ceremony

Aug. 8, 2008

BEIJING - Georgia Tech Track & Field All-American Fatmata Fofanah has been chosen to be the flag-bearer for her native country of Guinea at the Parade of Nations during tonight's Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony.

The ceremony will air this evening at 8 p.m. ET on NBC from Beijing National Stadium.

Fofanah, a two-time All-American for the Yellow Jacket women's track & field team, will compete in the 100-meter hurdles for the Guinean Olympic Team. Fofanah took home gold earlier this season at the CAA African Athletics Championships in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Track & Field events at the Olympics begin one week from today on Friday, August 15 at Beijing National Stadium, otherwise known as the "Bird's Nest". Fofanah joins seven current and former Georgia Tech athletes who will compete in four different sports at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
