Musil Leads No. 16 Tech on Day One of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - Samantha Musil won the college women's discus with an NCAA Regional qualifying throw of 157 feet, 10 inches to lead the No. 16 Georgia Tech women's track and field team on day one of the Penn Relays.

Sophomore Kimery Hern placed third in the discus with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 155 feet, 2 ½ inches. Hern, the Georgia Tech record-holder in the hammer throw, won the college division with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 187 feet, 5 inches.

In the 3000-meter run, senior Jenny Sims placed 10th with a personal- and team season-best time of 9:54.94. Senior Mary Chind placed 12th in the 10000-meter run with a season-best time of 36:29.26.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team of senior Ashlee Kidd, juniors Shantia Moss and Shantrell Moss and sophomore Jacqua Williams placed second in their heat with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 45.42. The 4x100m team finished eighth overall to qualify for the college women "Championship of America" final on Friday at 12:50 p.m.
