CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Fatmata Fofanah won the 60-meter hurdles to lead the 23rd-ranked Georgia Tech women's track & field team to a ninth-place finish at the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships Saturday afternoon in the Eddie Smith Field House/Belk Track on the University of North Carolina campus.

The Yellow Jackets finished the weekend with 30 points. The Virginia Tech women repeated as ACC Champions as the Hokies finished with 138 points to lead the way.

Fofanah crossed the line with an NCAA Championship automatic qualifying time of 8.11 seconds to win her first career indoor championship. Reigning NCAA Champion, Shantia Moss, finished third with a provisional qualifying time of 8.19.

In the women's 400-meter dash, Tiffany Grant finished eighth with a time of 56.58 to earn a point for the Jackets.

Grant also led off for Tech's 4x400-meter relay team that placed seventh with a time of 3:47.87. She was joined by freshmen Leslie Njoku, Jenae Anderson and Kayla McKeirnan in the race.

 

 

Tech will next travel to the Alex Wilson Invitational next Friday-Saturday, Mar. 7-8 in South Bend, Ind. The Jackets will have one last opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships held on Mar. 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark.
