Tech Women's Tennis Concludes Fall Season This Weekend

Georgia Tech's Amanda McDowell and Irina Falconi will travel to Charlottesville, Va., this weekend to participate in the 2008 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships, which will be hosted by University of Virginia Nov. 6-9.
The remaining Yellow Jackets will compete in the UNC Invitational, which will be held Nov. 7-9 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.
McDowell and Falconi will try and win their second straight national doubles title. The duo won the ITA All-American Doubles Championship in Pacific Palisades, Calif., last month. McDowell, the 2007 NCAA Singles Champion, has been tabbed the singles draw's No. 3 seed.
"This is another great opportunity for Amanda and Irina," head coach Bryan Shelton said. "They will once again play some of the top teams in the country. They may have a target on their backs this time so it will be interesting to see how they handle that pressure."
Live scoring updates for all matches at the 2008 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships will be available on www.virginiasports.com.
Senior Christy Striplin will lead the rest of the Yellow Jacket squad at the UNC Invitational. The Jackets will compete against players from North Carolina, Duke and NC State among others.
"It is a great opportunity for our players going to Chapel Hill," Shelton said. "They will all get an opportunity to play four singles matches and four doubles matches.
"The thing with the tournament in North Carolina is we want to finish the fall strong and establish some momentum at the end of the season to get us ready for our tough spring schedule. The team has been working very hard so it is good to get them one more opportunity to compete."
