Yellow Jackets will now await a possible NCAA Tournament bid.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After more rain in the Baltimore/Washington area this morning, the loser's bracket of the ACC Softball Tournament has been cancelled, including Georgia Tech's scheduled game this afternoon and any potential ones after it. Following a rain delay of nearly 10 hours yesterday, Georgia Tech (31-29) defeated Virginia 5-3 last night, but that will be the Yellow Jacket's final game of the championship.

Today's semifinal games have been pushed back to 2:00 p.m. with No. 2 Virginia Tech taking on No. 3 Florida State followed by No. 1 North Carolina battling No. 5 NC State. The championship game will take place tomorrow at Noon. The Jackets were supposed to have played the loser of the VaTech/FSU game at 3:00 p.m. today while No. 6 Boston College would face the UNC/NC State loser.

"It's too bad that this is how the conference championship had to end but we can't control the weather," head coach Sharon Perkins said. "I just want to thank the ACC staff as well as all of the Maryland grounds crew for their diligent work that enabled us to even get out on the field last night."

I am so proud of this team for their resiliency and never say never attitude this season. They have battled through the adversity of key injuries to starters and the bad weather that has seemed to follow us through the season."

Tech is eligible for the NCAA Tournament and will await a potential at -large selection when the field of 64 is announced tomorrow night at 10:00 p.m. The selection show will air on ESPNU and Georgia Tech has made six straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Yellow Jackets have won 14 of 17 games since a doubleheader sweep of No. 17/19 Georgia last month and are 21-8 since holding a 10-21 record on March 20.
