No. 9/11 Texas Holds Off Georgia Tech, 76-68

Nov. 29, 2008

Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Iasia Hemingway led the Yellow Jackets with 14 points and nine rebounds but it was not enough as No. 9/11 Texas (6-0) held off Georgia Tech, 76-68, in the first round of the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament Saturday night.

After cutting the Longhorn lead to five points with 10:12 remaining in the game on a Sasha Goodlett three-point play, the Yellow Jackets (4-2) were unable to get any closer. Tech was plagued by foul trouble, with five players called for three or more fouls.

"We just couldn't keep our starters in the game because of foul trouble," head coach MaChelle Joseph said. "Texas is a legitimate top-10 team. We have some work to do."

Jacqua Williams scored 13 points for Tech and Deja Foster added a career-high 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Tech trailed the Longhorns 32-24 at the half, shooting only 28 percent from the field. The Jackets opened the game on a 15-8 run before Texas responded with a 17-6 run of its own to lead 25-21 with 3:55 remaining in the half.

Texas was led by Brittainey Raven's 20 points. Erika Arriaran finished with 15 points to help Texas to its sixth win of the season.

The Jackets will return to action Sunday against Tennessee Tech in the consolation game of the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament. Tipoff at the FAU Arena is scheduled for 3 p.m.
