Former Yellow Jacket Taylor Captures Gold In Beijing

Aug. 18, 2008

ATLANTA - Former Georgia Tech track & field standout Angelo Taylor returned to Olympic prominence by winning gold in the 400-meter hurdles Monday at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The gold medalist in the 2000 Sydney Games, Taylor finished with a new personal-best time of 47.25 seconds.

The United States ran a clean sweep of the podium as teammate Kerron Clement (47.98) grabbed silver followed by Bershawn Jackson (48.06) with Bronze. It was the first sweep in the event since the United States did it in 1960.

Taylor's was the U.S. team's second gold medal of the meet, following Stephanie Brown Trafton's upset victory in the discus throw earlier Monday.

Another Georgia Tech Alum's quest for Olympic glory begins Thursday as Chaunte Howard competes in the women's high jump.
