Miller Sets Tech High Jump Record as Four Jackets Post First-Place Finishes at Clemson Invitational

Jan. 11, 2009

Complete Results

Senior Jerome Miller set the Georgia Tech record in the high jump with a leap of 7 feet, 4 ¼ inches Saturday at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C. Miller, along with Alphonso Jordan qualified for the NCAA's at the two-day tournament.

Miller inspired the Jackets early on in the day as he jumped to a height of 7 feet, 4 ¼ inches, breaking his own personal record of 7 feet, 2 ½ inches set in the 2006-07 season. Jordan shined in his third event of the meet, finishing first in the triple-jump with a distance of 51 feet, 2 ¾ inches. The jump for Jordan was a NCAA provisional qualifying distance.

Jordan was not done on the day however. After reaching the finals of the 60 meter hurdles on Friday, the Charlotte, N.C. native dashed to a second place finish in the event on Saturday running an 8.11 time.

On the women's side, sophomore Janae Anderson won the 60 meter dash with a 7.59 time in the finals. Also taking a title for the women was freshman Bailey Wagner, who in her first collegiate competition won the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 10 ¼ inches. The throw by the Lake Villa, Ill. native was the second-longest hurl in school history behind Dana Hall's 48 feet, 4 inches in 2002.

Sophomore Megan Manning grabbed a third-place spot in the shot put event, posting a distance of 44 feet, ½ inches on the day.

Both men's and women's teams will return to action Jan. 16-17, at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
