
Three Yellow Jackets Named to All-ACC Academic Men's Tennis Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Georgia Tech's Scott Blackmon, Guillermo Gomez and Ryan Smith were named to the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men's Tennis Team announced ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford Thursday.
Blackmon, a recent graduate in Management from Pensacola, Fla., earned his second straight All-ACC Academic nod. He finished the 2007-08 campaign with a 21-13 doubles record and teamed with Smith to earn a final doubles ranking of No. 42. The duo earned wins over the No. 26, No. 58 and No. 60 teams in the nation.
Smith, a freshman from Marietta, Ga., earned a spot on his first All-ACC Academic Team. The first-year Yellow Jacket registered 17 singles wins to go along with his 21 doubles wins.
Gomez, a freshman from Alicante, Spain, closed out his first season on The Flats with 27 wins, the ninth-most wins in a season by a Yellow Jacket. Gomez was recognized for his tremendous season by being named to the All-ACC Men's Tennis Team, the ACC Freshman of the Year and the ITA/Mideast Region Rookie of the Year.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
