
Dec. 19, 2008 ATLANTA -- More than 50 percent of Georgia Tech's 377 student-athletes achieved at least a 3.0 grade point average for the 2008 Fall semester, including 29 that earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. Georgia Tech placed 149 student-athletes on the Dean's List (3.0 GPA with 12 or more hours of non-pass/fail classes), while 25 others received Faculty Honors (4.0 GPA with same stipulations) for the semester. The Yellow Jacket student-athletes posted an average GPA of 2.89 during the fall. Eight of the Yellow Jackets' 17 athletic teams posted higher than 3.0 combined grade point averages, while all 17 squads had GPAs of 2.65 or higher. Tech's 10th-ranked golf team led the way with a 3.23 team GPA, including three team members with perfect 4.0's. Five of the school's eight women's sports posted team grade point averages above 3.05. Additionally, the Georgia Tech Athletic Association celebrated the commencement of 31 of its student-athletes Dec. 12-13 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum, including Atlantic Coast Conference Tatum Award winner Darryl Richard, who received his master's degree in management. The 31 student-athletes represented 14 different sports, including Tech's Chick-fil-A Bowl-bound football team that graduated 13 current and/or former players.
