Dwyer Named To Camp National Player Of The Year Watch List

Aug. 7, 2009

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Georgia Tech junior Jonathan Dwyer's list of preseason awards continued Friday when he was one of 30 players named to the Walter Camp Football Foundation 2009 Player of the Year Watch List.

Earlier this week Dwyer was named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, and last week he was voted the ACC preseason player of the year.

Six players on the 2009 watch list, including the 2008 Walter Camp Player of the Year Colt McCoy (quarterback, Texas), were named to last year's Walter Camp All-America First Team. The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in early November. The 2009 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 119 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on the ESPN SportsCenter on December 10. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation's annual national awards banquet on January 18, 2010 at the Yale University Commons in New Haven.

Dwyer, the 2008 ACC Player of the Year, led the ACC in rushing last season with 1,395 yards and 12 touchdowns. Dwyer's 1,831 career rushing yards already ranks 10th in Tech history. He has rushed for 100-plus yards in a game 10 times in his two-year career.

Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp - a former Yale University athlete and football coach - is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.
