Four Yellow Jackets Tabbed to All-ACC Baseball Team
May 19, 2008
ATLANTA -
Senior third baseman Brad Feltes, redshirt junior outfielder Charlie Blackmon, junior starting pitcher David Duncan and freshman shortstop Derek Dietrich have all been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference second team, as voted on by the 12 league coaches and announced by the ACC Office Monday morning.
Tech has had four or more players selected to All-ACC teams 13 times in head coach Danny Hall's 15-year tenure on the Flats.
Feltes, an Alpharetta, Ga. native, received his first league recognition after more than doubling his career numbers in 2008. Recognized for his stellar defensive prowess over the last three years, the senior third baseman is batting .296 with career-highs in home runs (14), RBI (60) and doubles (8) after entering his final season at Georgia Tech with a career .213 average, seven home runs, two doubles and 29 RBI. He has played in 48 of the Yellow Jackets' 55 games this season, making 46 starts.
Blackmon, a twice-drafted pitcher that chose to also try his hand at hitting this season, earned All-ACC honors for the first time in his career in 2008. The Suwanee, Ga., native and former Young Harris Junior College standout is leading the team in batting average (.377), hits (83) and runs scored (60) and ranks in the top-10 in the league in all three categories. Blackmon is one of two players to start every game for the Yellow Jackets in 2008 and was most recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First team.
Duncan, Tech's No. 1 pitcher each of the last two seasons, has been named to the all-conference team for the first time in his career. The New Richmond, Ohio native leads the Yellow Jackets in strikeouts (70) and innings pitched (85.0) in 2008 while boasting a 7-3 record this season and a 21-9 career mark. He has made 43 starts on the mound for Georgia Tech over the last three years, including 13 in 2008 after being selected in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft.
The Yellow Jackets head south for Jacksonville to participate in the 2008 ACC Baseball Championship beginning Wednesday at 10 a.m., when Georgia Tech and NC State square off for the first time this season.
