Duncan Pitches No. 25 Tech Baseball Past Clemson, 5-1

ATLANTA - David Duncan worked eight solid innings while Charlie Blackmon and Tony Plagman collected three hits apiece to lead No. 25 Georgia Tech (35-14, 13-12 ACC) to a 5-1 win over Clemson (25-24-1) Friday night in the series opener at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Duncan (7-2) gave up just one run - a solo home run in the sixth - on six hits while striking out five and walking none to earn his seventh win of the season. Andrew Robinson tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off the Tigers.

An RBI groundout by Jason Haniger, followed by run-scoring singles by Blackmon and Jeff Rowland staked the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Blackmon went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI while Rowland finished the night 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt.

Tech extended its lead to 4-0 when Plagman reached on a two-out double in the third inning and scored on Feltes RBI single. Plagman went 3-for-4 with two runs scored against Clemson, and Feltes collected two hits in four at bats.

Plagman singled to lead off the eighth inning, moved to second on a passed ball by Tiger catcher Doug Hogan, and scored on Thomas Nichols RBI single to cap the scoring for the Jackets.

Tech and Clemson will continue the Atlantic Coast Conference series Saturday at 7 p.m. in a game that will be televised on CSS. The game can also be heard on 790 the Zone, while live stats will be available at Ramblinwreck.com.
