April 1, 2008
ATLANTA -
Derek Dietrich and Brad Feltes each drove in three runs, while Tony Plagman and Jason Haniger belted home runs to rally 14th-ranked Georgia Tech past East Tennessee State, 13-6, Tuesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Tech (23-5) fell behind 6-2 in the fifth inning before the Jackets rallied for three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to take the lead.
Aided by a pair of walks and a catcher's interference, Tech closed to within 6-5 in the fifth. Haniger cracked his third homer of the season to lead off the sixth, tying the game at 6, and Dietrich broke the tie with a two-run double and scored on Feltes' single.
The Jackets added four runs in the eighth, two on Patrick Long's double and another on Luke Murton's sacrifice fly.
Taylor Wood (2-0) earned the win with one inning of work in relief of starter Deck McGuire, who surrendered a pair of home runs and six runs total over five innings. Chris Hicks, Brad Rulon and Andrew Robinson each pitched a scoreless inning of relief after Wood.
Dustin Plumlee (1-2), who gave up the four runs in the sixth, suffered the loss.
Thomas Nichols doubled with one out in the bottom of the first inning, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Brad Feltes' RBI single to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.
A two-run double by Ben Allen and an RBI single from Jacob Fabry helped East Tennessee State take a two-run lead in the top of the second inning, and the Buccaneers added another run in the third to make the score 4-1.
The Jackets and Bucs will conclude the midweek series Wednesday night at 6 p.m. A live video broadcast of the game can be found on ACC Select (gatech.playonsports.tv) while live stats will be available at Ramblinwreck.com.
