Swimming & Diving Set To Open Season Saturday In Florida

Sept. 26, 2008

ATLANTA - The Georgia Tech Swimming & Diving teams will open the 2008-09 season on Saturday, Sept. 27, as it travels down to Boca Raton, Fla., to compete in a meet with host-Florida Atlantic University as well as Florida Gulf Coast University. Action from the FAU Pool gets underway at 1:00 p.m. with the 200-medley relay.

"Everyone is very excited for the season to start," head coach Stu Wilson said. "We did not lose many seniors at all and added a lot of firepower in the freshmen class as well as a couple of transfers. We are looking forward to seeing how everyone progresses as the season moves along and our goals have been set high leading up to the ACC Championships."

There will be 16 events in tomorrow's meet (200-Medley Relay, 1000-Free, 200-Free, 100-Back, 100-Breast, 200-Fly, 50-Free, one-meter diving, 100-Free, 200-Back, 200-Breast, 500-Free, 100-Fly, three-meter diving, 400-IM and the 400-Free Relay).

The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 2007-08 season in which they set 19 school records and sent five participants (Noah Copeland, Stephanie England, Hannah Krimm, Agatha Kwasnik and Elizabeth Stowe) to the NCAA Championships.

For the first time in school history, two Tech divers earned All-American honors in 2007-08 as Stephanie England and Hannah Krimm took home the awards. Mickey Malul was an ACC champion in the 100-breast, while Copeland, England, Krimm, Kwasnik, Malul, Miller and Uras each earned All-ACC recognition.

The Jackets' next meet will be Friday, Oct. 10 when they travel up I-85 for an ACC meet at Clemson. For full coverage on tomorrow's meet including recap and results, please visit www.ramblinwreck.com .
