England and Stowers Lead Jackets at NCAA Zone B Diving Championships

March 2, 2007

Results

ATHENS, Ga. - Junior Evan Stowers finished sixth on the men's one-meter springboard (636.75) and junior Stephanie England finished 20th on the women's three-meter board (531.40) to lead Georgia Tech at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium on Friday.

"Evan was great in the prelims and he was in third heading into finals which would have guaranteed him a spot at the NCAA meet," said Tech Diving Coach John Ames. "He missed a couple of dives in the finals, and ended up sixth and we have to wait and see now.

"Stephanie really came back after prelims. Hannah just missed making finals by like six or seven points."

Freshman Hannah Krimm posted a prelims score of 247.35 to finish 20th on the women's three-meter board. Rounding out competitors for the men was junior Peter Doblar who finished 39th with a prelims score of 223.55.

"I was happy with the all-around performance and Evan and Stephanie were third and fourth against other ACC divers."

The diving meet consists of 41 male divers and 49 women are competing in the zone qualifying meet. The top eight men and 11 women will move on to Minneapolis, Minn., for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The meet will continue with men's three-meter and women's one-meter tomorrow on the campus of the University of Georgia. -30-
