Georgia Tech Dance Team Audition Information
 
Requirements:
  • Must be a Current Georgia Tech Student or an accepted incoming Freshman
  • Must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher

    Must have the following at Registration:

  • Photo
  • Registration Fee
  • Resume
  • Letter of Acceptance (Freshman Only)
  • Copy of Insurance Card
  • Application (which will be available at the audition)

    Rules and Regulations
    Dance Team members are responsible for maintaining their uniforms, poms, warm-ups, shoes, and practice wear. Official uniforms, promotional and some practice wear will be provided upon making the team.

    Rehearsals
    The team practices two to three times a week in the evening; subject to change. Extra rehearsals are added as needed. Any dancer missing a rehearsal prior to a game will not be allowed to perform at the game. Any dancer missing multiple games and/or practices is subject to dismissal from the squad. If you cannot attend the majority of rehearsals and games, please do not audition.

    Community
    Each dancer will be required to attend a minimum number of charity and/or school appearances throughout the season.

    General Information
    Dancer must be at all Football games 3-4 hours prior to kick-off, and dancer must be at all Men's Basketball, and Women's ACC home games 1.0-1.5 hours prior to tip-off for pre-game rehearsals.

     
     
     
    Goldrush Dance Team
    The Georgia Tech Goldrush Dance Team performs at all home Football & Basketball games plus many public appearances.
     
    Competition Dance Team
    A competition team will be selected each year to compete on a National Level. This competition team is selected on a open audition basis in the Fall of each school year, is not responsible for cheering at athletic events, and will attend a separate set of practices beginning in December.

    DO YOU HAVE AUDITION PREPARATORY CLINICS THAT I CAN ATTEND?
    Yes, these preparatory clinics are generally held prior to auditions in March or April. Sessions generally run for 1.5 hours and are optional, however attendance is strongly recommended.

    WHAT ARE YOUR HEIGHT AND WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS?
    There are no height or weight requirements. Applicants should be in top physical condition.

    WHAT DO THE JUDGES LOOK FOR AT AUDITIONS?
    Judges will look at your appearance, showmanship, dance ability, poise, personality, and speaking ability.

    WHERE WILL AUDITIONS BE HELD?
    All Preparatory Classes as well as the Preliminary audition will be held at the O'Keefe Gym.

    WILL AUDITIONS BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC?
    Auditions will be closed to the public.

    DO CURRENT TEAM MEMBERS HAVE TO RE-AUDITION?
    Yes, all returning members must go through the audition process each season. Their spots on the team are not guaranteed.

    WHAT TYPE OF THINGS WILL I HAVE TO DO FOR AUDITIONS?
    Audition routines will consist of jazz, technical and hip hop styles. There will be at least one double turn and an advanced leap in the audition routine.

    WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR AUDITIONS?
    Interested participants are encouraged to be in top physical shape. Physical fitness is a plus! Participants may want to enroll in a variety of dance classes to make sure they are up on all types of dance styles.

    HOW SHOULD I FIX MY HAIR AND MAKE-UP?
    Your hair and make-up should be complimentary and appropriate for an athletic environment. No ponytails please!

    WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR AUDITIONS?
    You should wear something that is flattering to you. Half tops and shorts/spandex shorts are a must. Please wear athletic footwear or dance shoes.

    WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?
    The time commitment is usually 6 hours a week for rehearsals and promotional appearances. During the season, this number will increase. Dancing for Georgia Tech will be a priority over all social and Greek commitments.
