Jackets Football On The Air

 • Radio/TV Home Page

The Georgia Tech ISP Sports Network

WQXI-AM, "Sportstalk 790 The Zone," is the Atlanta flagship for Georgia Tech football and basketball.

FM coverage is available in the Atlanta area for night games on WREK (91.1 FM), Tech's campus station. WTSH-FM, South 107, in Rome is also on the network for each football broadcast. The 45,000-watt signal of the country station provides FM coverage throughout most of metro Atlanta and northwest Georgia.

The radio broadcast team for Yellow Jacket football is headlined by play-by-play announcer Wes Durham, the Voice of the Yellow Jackets since 1995.

Durham, who also serves as Director of Broadcasting for the Georgia Tech Athletic Association, is a four-time selection as the Sportscaster of the Year in the state of Georgia and the recipient of the "Furman Bisher Award" from the Atlanta Sports Council. He is also the radio voice of the Atlanta Falcons.

A 1988 graduate of Elon, Durham is the son of North Carolina play-by-play voice Woody Durham, who is entering his 37th season with the Tar Heels.

Joining Durham in the booth is former National Football League great Jeff Van Note. The long-time All-Pro center, whose Atlanta Falcons career covered 18 seasons and nearly 250 games, will provide color analysis.

Rick Strom, the former Rambling Wreck and NFL quarterback, enters his third season as the sideline reporter.

Strom played for the Jackets from 1983-87, starting 16 games at quarterback over the 1986-87 seasons. Following graduation from Tech, the Pittsburgh, Pa., native enjoyed a seven-year career in the NFL, playing for his hometown Steelers as well as the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions. Strom currently works for Manulife Financial in Atlanta.

The football broadcast team also includes veteran engineer and producer Miller Pope along with long-time spotters Al Ciraldo, Jr., and Tommy Barber.

Each broadcast begins two hours prior to kickoff with "Yellow Jacket Countdown," featuring game previews, live guests and former players.

Following each game, Wes Durham will interview key players and coaches, and fans will get statistics and scores on "The Locker Room Show."

Georgia Tech football games are also available on XM Satellite Radio, through an agreement between XM Radio and the ACC. ACC games, featuring the home team's announcers, are available on XM Channels 190-192.
