CIBA VISION
Vision Center at Georgia Tech
Our Mission
The Homer Rice Center for Sports Performance has partnered with Dr. Barry L. Seiller,
M.D. of the Vision Institute of Vernon Hills, IL and CIBA Vision to established a new Sports Vision Center at Georgia Tech. Dr. Barry L.
Seiller, M.D.,Ophthalmologist, has developed a program dedicated to improving visual
skills imperative for athletes to achieve peak performance.
What is Sports Vision Training?
Sports vision training begins with a vision evaluation to assess the athlete's current
visual acuity (i.e. 20/20,20/30,20/40,etc). If the athlete does not have 20/20
vision, he/she is fitted with CIBA Vision corrective lenses. Next the athlete is
screened for specific sports vision abilities such as: depth perception, tracking, visual
motor strengths/weaknesses, and convergence/divergence abilities. Finally, the
athlete's testing results determine if sports vision training could be beneficial.
The sports vision training is 1 or 2 times per week for 15 to 25 minutes. Over a
period of time participants can strengthen their sports vision abilities and enhance their
performance on the field or court.
How does Vision Training Benefit the Athlete?
Enhancing visual skills can translate into a variety of athletic skills needed for peak
performance. A few examples include: the ability of the batter to quickly visually
acquire and track a baseball pitch, increased hand/eye coordination, quicker
reaction time.
The opening of the Sports Vision Center at Georgia Tech is truly groundbreaking.
No other university in the United States has this type of facility available for the
student-athletes.
